100 Days!

Yes, that is right...Reed has been in Vanderbilt Children's Hospital for 100 days. Even though it has been a long 100 days, we have so very much to be thankful for. Reed is doing great since his transplant, and we are so blessed for how far he has come in these 100 days. God has blessed Ryan and I with Reed and Braden and we cannot imagine our lives without these boys.
We owe huge thank you's to so many of you for bringing us food, helping with Braden, visiting Reed in the hospital, and the list could go on and on. But the most important thing that we need to thank you for is praying for our sweet little Reed. It is amazing to step back and see what this little 3 month old has already been through in his life and we owe God all of the glory!

So here is what I would love for each of you to do that have followed this blog and prayed for our family during these times. I would love for you to either leave a comment, your favorite scripture, a note to Reed, or just to simply say you were praying him during these past 100 days.

Now for those of you like my nanny who do not know how to leave a comment, here is what you will do:
1) Click on the pink link below that says # comments.
2) This will open a new page where you will see a box titled "Leave your Comment"
3) Type what you would like
4)Then type the word verification word. This is just simply typing the word that you see above the word verification box.
5)Under "Choose an identity," click the button for Name/URL and just enter your name. You do not have to type in a URL. OR you can click anonymous if you would like to.
6)Finally, click "Publish your Comment"

I am going to get a book made from this blog, and I would love for our boys to know who all prayed for the two of them, especially for Reed's surgery! I know that there are a lot of prayer warriors out there and I would love to see how many people that God used to help us get through this time in our lives. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS!!!

"Hope" - Reed this is Your Life Verse

Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Romans 5 -

Shane, Natalie, Madelyn & Murphy said...

"The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him."(Palms 28:7)

Reed, What a blessing it has been to hear your story. My husband and I pray for you and your family every night. You are SO strong!

My Father, 60, is waiting on a new heart and you give us hope. We understand the infection fight b/c we are dealing with that pre-transplant. We continue to learn and grow through you and Our God Almighty. Thank you for touching so many lives and making my heart whole. You are truly a blessing to me.

You haven’t seen visits or notes from us but I know Reed can feel our prayers. I’ll continue to pray for your family. I’m thankful God is in control. Have a blessed day.

Psalm 127:3-5
3 -5 Don't you see that children are God's best gift? the fruit of the womb his generous legacy?
Like a warrior's fistful of arrows are the children of a vigorous youth.
Oh, how blessed are you parents,
with your quivers full of children!
Your enemies don't stand a chance against you;
you'll sweep them right off your doorstep.

Reed,
Aunt Sheena and I have been thinking about you and praying for you, as well as Braden, since your Daddy told me that he and your mommy where pregnant. We were so excited and thrilled that both you and Braden where going to be coming into the world. We have not ceased praying for you both, especially you during all the difficult days that you have had. Your Mom, Dad, and Braden have been so strong and brave through all of this. Sometime we don't understand the trials we face, but God chooses those that he knows who can face those trials head on and be better because of it. God knew that your Mom and Dad would lean on him during this time, and they have done so with an amount of integrity and faith that inspires so many. There have been so many who have prayed for you, cried when times where tough for you, and so many who have rejoiced at just how strong and wonderful you are. Things are not always easy; you, Mom, Dad, and Braden certainly know that. But Paul tells us in Romans 5:3-5, "we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us." Hope, Reed, is the message of our God and he has provided so much hope to you through blessing your new heart with his Spirit. We love you and looking forward to you and Braden getting to grow up with your cousin, Colin!
Be good to your brother, and Mom and Dad. (But give Dad a hard time just so things aren't to easy for him)
Love,
Uncle Sean

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Dear Ryan, Keeley, Reed and Braden,

These words from the Hillsong United song MIGHTY TO SAVE have been on my heart the past 100 days, "Savior, He can move the mountains. My God is mighty to save. He is mighty to save." You inspire me little man. I have prayed for you everyday. Can't wait to hold you in my arms...

Ryan & Keeley,
You guys rock. Love you both more than you know. I am reminded of you guys when I read about Hannah in 1 Samuel after giving birth to Samuel - her miracle baby. After having her miracle baby, the Bible says in 1 Samuel 1 that Hannah brought him to the house of the LORD and cried these words to God, "I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD." Make that prayer your prayer for Reed. God will use him in incredible ways. Love you guys.

Braedon and Reed,

I have loved reading about your first 100 days on this earth. It's been a rough 100 days but the days have also been blessed with many things. You should be so proud of your parents. They have loved you the moment they found out you were coming in this world.

Reed, your parents never lost faith that you would get a heart. It is our prayer and hope that you and your brother will continue on in this life with the same faith your parents have. And don't worry about the scar. Many teenage girls find it very sexy! Your parents will have their hands full keeping you away from the girls during those teen years!

God has very big plans for you two boys and I look forward to reading all about it on your blog. We may never have the opportunity to meet you but we knew your parents for a few years and you can't ask for two better ones who love you. May God bless you in your life journey.

Thanks for the TEXT and the word that your family is now at home! Just before I read the text Barbara called me from Gatlinburg with the wonderful news. I was in Spartanburg just ready to go on the air with a Bison game when you called me to tell me that they had a heart and the surgery would be that evening---I thought about your family through the game and the bus ride home---and what a blessing to be with you at the hosptial that night when the doctors told you it was an A+ surgery. Today I was just about to go on the air again when I got the new that everyone was home! What a blessing! No one will ever know or understand what your family has gone through these past 100 days! But we worship and awesome GOD! May he continue to bless your family! What a Journey! We love you all and we continue to pray for each of you! Glad your family is home--together tonight! I wish we had gotten to know you better at Vandy. My husband was the one that popped over and ask about baby Reed. We thought he might have had the same problems as Isaac. We were blessed just to have transpostion and a couple holes in the heart. I was blown away when you told him heart transplant. I didn't know really what to say. I've never been through that before. I can't imagine what you been through. Just remember it will all be worth it when you are all home together.
May God bless you. When we were at Vandy we stayed with the Stephens from Brentwood Hills church. Our paths may have crossed before. We really love the church at Brentwood. Also, we know the Kincades, they were the ones that found us housing. Ann Davis gave blood for Isaac. God put great people in our lives when we needed them the most. May God continue to bless you.

My darling grandson, I am so glad that your home with brother, mom and dad. Its been a long time coming and yet were so thankful that it was not longer. I think that when we have trying times it just seems like it is taking so long. But I think that we forget that God works in his time schedule not ours and I am very grateful that he gave the doctor who did the very first transplants a go. As 20 years ago this would not have been possible to have you. My prayers for you and the very sweet and loving family that gave you this chance to live are so bountiful I cannot find it humanly possible to say enough. The Lord has been good to you and your mom, dad and brother. The plans for you and your brother will be of the Lords doing and I know they will be BIG. As everyone who prayed said you and Braden will have a wonderful life. And with mom and dad and your extended family and the people who love you (As it takes a village to raise a child) you will be good boys, sons and good men. I have so many bible versuses that I like. This ran across my face yesterday. Isaiah 40:31 They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles: They shall run and not be weary; They shall walk and not be faint. I believe in this and I will pray that you all will live long and healthy lives with God, Prayer, & Love. In God's word always, Gram

Children are a blessing from God sent from heaven. Thank you God for trusting us to take care of these special blessings from you.

Keely & Ryan, you have received two very special blessings from God. He knew that you would be great parents. Parenting isn't something you learn from a book, but from the heart. You have experienced so much in these 100 days, than most do in a lifetime.

We read your blog almost everyday and then say a prayer for you and your precious boys. These prayers have been answered!

Because of the blog, We feel like we haven't visited or talked to you, but you have always been in our prayers. Can't wait to see those precious boys.

We will keep blogging and always keep praying.

From Alex - John 3:16

From Dawn - Our thoughts and prayers have been with you all during the pregnancy and these past months. Perry's niece had heart surgery at 12 weeks, so we are aware of how precious Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital is to precious babies like Reed. I praise God for the care he has received, for the donor family's willingness to share life with Reed, and for your blog and testimony to God's power in our lives.

Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Reed, God loves you and has a plan for you. Trust God, as your parents have trusted Him with your care. The LORD is walking with you always, lean on him, allow him to guide your days.

Baby Reed,

You will never know how fully loved by so many that you have been in the short time you have been here. It has been such a blessing to be a part of your life, and Pat, Maggie, John Patrick, Ryan, and baby Cameron (soon) cannot wait for the fun times we will share with you as you grow up with us!!! We have prayed long and hard through your journey and will continue to do so. It has been such an encouragement to see your Mommy and Daddy stand by each other and by your side as they have loved you and worried for your health. They have been such an inspiration to so many and a model of trusting in the one who is all powerful and all healing. We love you so much, and we know what a blessing every child that God gives us truly is.

I have often sung the song "God Is So Good" to my kids at bedtime, and even Maggie still requests it from time to time. I think it is so appropriate!

God is so good
God is so good
God is so good
He's so good to me

God answers prayers

God answers prayers
He's so good to me

Dear Reed,

Wow, what a journey it's been for you, your brother, and your parents! We met your parents when your mother was about 4-5 months pregnant in Cancun, Mexico. We had a blast with them and loved talking with them about you two boys (at the time, we didn't know you were boys!) We have followed this blog since we met your parents and WOW, you will never know how much you and your sweet parents have touched our lives. You have been a true inspiration to us and you have shown us how truley amazing our God is! We have a 2 year old son named Connor and we have prayed every night for you and your family. We can't wait for Connor to meet the little boy he's been praying for!

Dear Reed,

We have been so blessed to "know" you and to have our faith strengthened through you over the past months! You have an incredible mommy and daddy that love the Lord and that have assembled an army of pray warriors to help you fight this battle. What joy to see your victory! The verse that comes to my mind most often when I pray for you is this:
"Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
-Philippians 1:6
Just seeing your sweet shy smile and your melt.my.heart eyes on this blog, it's clear that God has begun a good work in you. How exciting it will be to watch you grow and see God carry His plans for you on to completion! You are so very loved (and in case you didn't know, your brother is pretty special, too!).

I have been following your blog about precious Reed for awhile now. I don't personally know your family but it is a small world. My brother's baby was born with TGA and had heart surgery at 6 days at Vanderbilt. He was there having a recheck of his heart the day of Reed's transplant and just happened to overhear your situation and talked with you a bit. I mentioned it to my Aunt in Oxford, MS and she is a friend of Ann Davis and said that Ann had told her of a baby having a heart transplant that same day. Then my in-laws realized they met Ryan's parents at their church in Florida and have spoken with them each time they visit down there. They get the chuch email from there and knew of Reed's upcoming surgery. So, I feel like I know your family. Reed is a very special boy and Braden is too, of course. I am so, so happy that things went well and he is healed. Praise God for giving the doctor's the minds to be able to correct heart defects. Here is my Bible verse for Reed as it was for my nephew, Isaac (I even bought him a shirt with this verse on it)

Psalm 139:14 I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.

In Him,

Reed, your story and life are an inspiration to all who will know you. From the time before you were ever born, your faithful parents chose LIFE and praise God that a very generous family out there also chose LIFE for someone they did not even know. I pray that God will continue to do great things in your life, and may you always allow Him to use you in mighty ways.

Braden, LIFE came so much easier for you, but certainly not any less appreciated or important to your family, to your current and future friends, and to your Savior. Praise God for your simplicity thus far, as this has probably helped your mom and dad keep their sanity! You have so gracefully remained in the shadows of your brother these first few months, but we all know God is doing great things with your little life that will be revealed in due time.

We have been praying for you and the boys before they were born.

Zach and Martha Lynn have kept us updated. Zach let us know when the heart was available and the surgery started.

Children are such a blessing and your have already shown yourselves to be Godly parents.

We will continue to pray for you all.

Love,

Tammy and Raymond Cowart

Reed,

We pray that you will be God's servant. So many from our Cincinnati network prayed for you. Your scar will forever be a reminder of the NEW HEARTS that God puts in his people. Ezekiel 36:26 - It is for God's glory that this has happened.

We love you and your family very much!
