Day 1 after Surgery

The surgery was successful! Dr. Bischell came out after it was over and said that he would give the whole process an A+!!!
Last night, or should I say this morning, we finally got to see Reed around 2 am. It took them a while to get all of his new tubes set up and for some of the bleeding to quit. The bleeding was expected because he was given medicine during the surgery so that his blood would not clot. Once they got him settled, we got to see our sweet boy. He looked great even with all the tubes on him. The coolest part was seeing how easily his chest was moving up and down while he was breathing with his new heart. Before surgery, his old heart had to work so hard to help him breathe and you could see his chest make hard contractions to help breathe.
I will update later today with pictures.
Ryan even asked if we could get a picture of Reed's old heart. We had to sign some papers and they took a picture of his heart sitting in his chest before they removed it, his old heart removed and a picture of his brand new heart before it was put in his chest...pretty cool!
I have not been up this morning but Ryan said that the doctors just made rounds and that he is doing great! Please continue to lift Reed and his doctors up in prayers. Pray that Reed's body will not reject this new heart and that he will thrive and doing great with his new plumbing!!! Ryan and I cannot express to you how grateful we are for all the prayers you have lifted up and how great our God is!

I have been refreshing your page all morning!!!! The news is fantastic! Bridget couldn't get on her computer this morning for some reason so I called and we read it together for the first time. We both were in tears. I can only imagine how it felt to see him breathing and his chest moving like you described. I can't wait to see pictures!

Ryan and Keeley, Hi, I am Jonathan Pharr. I am that random guy that came up to you in the surgical waiting room inquiring about Dr. Bichell. Our son was born with transposition of the major arteries and had two VSDs and one ASD. Anyway, it is great to hear that little Reed is doing well. You will be amazed at how quick things move from this point. We will be praying for you to get to the 5th floor quickly!

In a strange course of events, we have discovered that we kind of know each other through a friend. Ann Davis used to go to church in Oxford, MS, where we attended while at Ole Miss. Ann sent your story to the Oxford church to be put on their prayer list, while my Aunt Amy (also attends Oxford) was putting our son Isaac on the prayer list. This is how we got your blog page.

Interestingly, we know a family here in Tupelo, MS that also had twins, only one of which had a heart condition (Same as Isaac's). I can get you their contact info if you want it. They are also members of the church. I couldn't imagine going back and forth between two infants. We had a 2 year old at the time, and that was hard enough. If you ever need to talk to someone that has dealt with a heart defect before, please shoot us an email, and we can give you our phone numbers.

Well this is starting to look like a blog of my on so I will quit typing now. We will continue to keep your family in our prayers.
In Him,
Jonathan, Kim, Tristan and Isaac Pharr

Ryan and Keeley, I have thought about you so much the past ten weeks. You have been such an encouragement to me without even knowing it. I have prayed for Reed to get a new heart and am so thankful he is doing well. I have tears in my eyes as I type this because I can't even imagine what you have been through and the joy you must be feeling. I also have been praying for the family of the child who made this transplant possible. Again, can not imagine. You continue to remain in my prayers and prais be to God the almighty healer. All things are possible.
